Recently, Tesla CEO Elon Musk posted on X that the company’s Terafab project, aimed at manufacturing AI chips, will be launched in seven days. Musk did not disclose specific details, but he and his team may soon reveal how the chip factory will be implemented.

Currently, Tesla is designing its fifth-generation AI chip (AI5) to advance its autonomous driving vision. According to Tesla, this chip, targeted for mass production in 2027, is expected to deliver performance 50 times that of the current AI4. AI5 will have nine times the memory capacity of AI4 and ten times the raw computing power, and will be used across a wide range of scenarios—from electric vehicles and robots to AI training and data centers.
