Driven by ongoing supply concerns triggered by Iran’s conflict entering its third week, European natural gas prices rose in early trading. The Dutch TTF benchmark natural gas price increased by 4.3%, reaching €52.31 per megawatt-hour.

ANZ analysts stated, “Despite supply disruptions related to the war and a large number of liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargoes shifting to Asia, European supply remains sufficient, LNG imports are stable, and demand is relatively moderate.” “However, it is expected that by the late summer this year, competition for cargoes between Europe and Asia will intensify.”

Meanwhile, following European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen’s statement that the EU is considering subsidies or a gas price cap to protect consumers, traders are awaiting more concrete policies.
