The company required graduates to record the departure and return times of military vessels near military ports. After being reported and verified, it was found to have foreign background.
On the evening of March 21, CCTV News released a video titled “Beware of Pitfalls When Applying for Jobs: Watch Out for ‘Private Custom’ Spy Traps”:
It is now the prime season for spring recruitment. If you encounter such opportunities, be cautious. Here are two real cases.
A graduate student named Xiao Jin from a certain university saw a posting on the campus forum about a Chinese embassy in a foreign country hiring graduate students in economics and management as part-time research assistants. The match was perfect, and the interview went smoothly. The work was simple: check public economic data, write reports, get paid per task, and the income was quite decent. After graduation, Xiao Jin continued to do this part-time job.
However, as the cooperation deepened, the other party’s demands started to change. Suddenly, Xiao Jin was asked to shift focus to politics, energy, and international hot spots. Not only did the pay double, but he was also guided to collect and analyze sensitive data and write reports. They even wanted him to meet with experts in sensitive fields for collaboration.
Xiao Jin realized something was wrong and immediately terminated the cooperation. In fact, the other party was a foreign spy. Xiao Jin was unknowingly working for them and stopped illegal activities on his own, causing no serious harm. In the end, national security authorities criticized and educated Xiao Jin and confiscated his illegal earnings.
Now, let’s look at the second case involving Xiao Wang. During his job search after graduation, he was approached by a “Marine Environmental Pollution Testing Company.” They praised his strong professional background and perfect internship experience. But once involved, Xiao Wang found that this was not an environmental testing company at all. Instead, they asked him to go near a local military port to secretly photograph passing ships, record the departure and return times of military vessels, and upload the data.
Xiao Wang didn’t hesitate and reported them immediately. After investigation, it was confirmed that this company indeed had foreign connections and was suspected of monitoring important military port ships and their movements.
As you step out of campus and pursue your future, facing the unknown path, remember these two points:
Don’t fill out your resume carelessly. Carefully verify the qualifications of potential employers. Also, avoid including experiences related to classified research projects or information about relatives working in sensitive units to prevent being targeted by foreign spies and intelligence agencies.
Be cautious of positions with extremely high pay and very low entry barriers. If a foreign company demands sensitive information such as cutting-edge domestic technology achievements or your supervisor’s research directions, refuse immediately and call the national security hotline 12339 to report. Protecting national security is protecting your future.
