Pan Jianwei Committee Member: Recommends Increasing Heuristic and Open-Ended Questions in College Entrance Examination
China Youth Daily Client Beijing March 8 (China Youth Daily · China Youth Net Reporter Hu Chunyan, Qin Zhenzi, Liu Changrong, Yang Yue) On the afternoon of March 8, Pan Jianwei, a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, spoke at the third plenary session of the 14th CPPCC National Committee on behalf of the Jiusan Society, mentioning, “There is still a lack of systematic cultivation of students’ pioneering spirit, and the foundational support for independent and self-reliant technological talent from the source needs to be strengthened.”
He said that the utilitarian trend in the current research ecosystem urgently needs to be reversed, the “breaking four唯” reform needs to be deepened, and there is insufficient support and guidance for dedicated research; the tolerance mechanism for exploratory failures is not yet sound, which suppresses researchers’ courage for original innovation from zero to one.
In response to these issues, he suggested, “Significantly increase the number of inspiring and open-ended questions in key exams such as the college entrance examination, guiding teachers to shift from knowledge transmission to problem exploration and critical thinking teaching,” to systematically cultivate students’ empirical thinking, critical thinking, and creative thinking.
At the same time, he also recommended that reform of evaluation be used to unleash innovation vitality, giving more authority to hiring units in setting talent standards and conducting evaluations. The government should weaken direct micro-assessment of talent projects, encourage and guide enterprises, foundations, and other social forces to establish highly professional and credible talent awards, so that talent evaluation is more closely linked to industry needs and scientific frontiers, and establish long-term evaluation mechanisms. Encourage researchers to be indifferent to fame and fortune, willing to sit on the cold bench, and dedicate themselves to long-term breakthroughs; at the same time,制度上也要为科研人员挑战“无人区”提供保障。
