Intel Chairman Retires After Leading Four CEO Transitions and Selecting Chen Ligang
Intel Chairman Jerri
Tech Sina News, March 4th, Beijing time — According to Reuters, Intel announced on Tuesday that Chairman Frank Yeary plans to retire after the annual shareholders’ meeting in May. His position will be succeeded by Craig Barratt.
Yeary’s departure comes a year after Liwu Chen became Intel’s CEO, marking a significant change for the board of this struggling American chip manufacturer. Last year, just weeks after Chen took office, three board members announced their retirements. Since becoming CEO, Chen has been implementing a plan to reverse the company’s decline.
Yeary has served on Intel’s board since 2009 and has been chairman since 2023. During his tenure, he oversaw four CEO changes and responded to challenges such as the decline in Intel’s manufacturing business and the rise of TSMC.
Before becoming CEO, Chen Liwu worked with Yeary on the Intel board but left due to disagreements over the company’s transformation plan.
In a statement, Yeary praised the company’s progress in revitalizing manufacturing technology and noted that he and the board selected Chen Liwu as CEO last year.
Craig Barratt, who is set to succeed as chairman, joined Intel’s board in 2025 and has previously worked at Qualcomm and Google. Notably, Intel also previously had a CEO named Craig Barratt. (Author: Xiao Yu)
