IT Home, March 16 — Micron announced on March 15 local time in the United States that it has completed the transfer of the P5 wafer factory in Tongluo Science Park, Miaoli County, with Powerchip. The company also stated plans to build a second phase on the existing first phase of the plant.

The original Powerchip Tongluo P5 wafer factory has approximately 300,000 square feet (about 27,871 square meters) of cleanroom space for 12-inch wafer production lines. The announced second phase will add another 270,000 square feet (about 25,084 square meters) of cleanroom space, with construction scheduled to begin by the end of fiscal year 2026 (by late August 2026).

Micron said that the Tongluo wafer factory will serve as an extension of its manufacturing base in Taichung, which is only about 15 miles apart (Note from IT Home: approximately 24.1 kilometers). The new wafer plant will support Micron’s expansion of advanced DRAM products, including HBM, to meet the growing demand driven by AI.
