Indonesia Considers Withdrawing from Trump's "Peace Commission"
Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto recently stated that Indonesia may withdraw from the “Board of Peace” initiative proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump if it fails to support Palestinian interests.
Prabowo said during a discussion with journalists and analysts in Bogor, West Java, that Indonesia’s decision to join the committee was based on strategic considerations aimed at advancing Palestinian interests through the forum. He emphasized that participating in the committee would provide a more meaningful way to influence policy directions compared to remaining on the sidelines.
Prabowo warned that if the committee’s resolutions prove counterproductive or contradict Indonesia’s commitment to supporting Palestinian independence, Indonesia will not hesitate to withdraw from the committee. He stressed that Indonesia reserves the right to exit independently without approval from other members.
Trump officially launched the Peace Committee in Davos, Switzerland, this January. The establishment of the committee has sparked many doubts and cold reactions, with several countries concerned that it might overlap with the United Nations’ role or undermine the UN’s authority.
