A federal judge in New Jersey has narrowed a proposed multistate class action lawsuit against Johnson & Johnson Consumer Inc. and Kenvue Inc. The lawsuit alleged that acne creams sold under the Clean & Clear and Neutrogena brands contained cancer-causing benzene without proper warnings. While claims for monetary damages were allowed to proceed, the court dismissed large portions of the plaintiffs’ state and common law claims due to a lack of adequate connection between alleged federal manufacturing violations and cited state laws.
