The U.S. Department of the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) announced sanctions against Russian company Operation Zero and its leader Sergey Sergeyevich Zelenyuk, along with four others, accusing them of using cyber vulnerability tools to threaten U.S. national security. The sanctions stem from an investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice, during which Australian citizen Peter Williams admitted to stealing proprietary software from a U.S. defense contractor and providing confidential information to Operation Zero in exchange for millions of dollars in cryptocurrency assets. Williams has pleaded guilty to two counts of commercial espionage. (The Block)
