Recently, the Mac mini has been extremely popular. I was also tempted and debated all day whether to choose the standard Mac mini M4 or go straight for the M4 Pro. How to configure the memory? The price difference is so big, is it really worth it?

Today, I did a lot of research, watched many review videos with real feedback, and combined with my own needs, I finally made a decision: Mac mini M4 Pro 48G+512G, go all in.
1. AI updates are happening too quickly now. The M5 is expected to be released in June. From the perspective of practicality, long-term use, and AI productivity, a smaller GPU will really bottleneck performance. It’s already slow now, and it will be even worse in the future. Running multiple web pages, software, and AI tools easily causes frame drops, lag, and overheating. The system updates every year, and software demands more and more memory. Small memory configurations can’t keep up with current usage intensity.
2. Mac memory cannot be upgraded later. Going all in now is truly worry-free. The memory is soldered, and buying too little is a lifelong shortcoming. Instead of regretting or upgrading later, it’s more cost-effective to buy enough from the start.
3. I want to build my own AI Agent, which requires pro-level performance. Deploying and running independent AI intelligent systems demands extremely high processor and memory performance. The standard M4 simply can’t handle it. Only the Pro can run stably without crashing.
4. To run the super popular OpenClaw smoothly,
OpenClaw is the reason this machine is so popular. It’s the first AI that can automate the entire workflow of a computer—automatic operation, content creation, and office automation. It has very high performance requirements, and only 48G can truly unleash its power.
5. The Pro version is more powerful and stable. As electronics evolve rapidly, aiming to avoid obsolescence in the next few years. With a stronger CPU, GPU, Thunderbolt 5 port, multitasking, multiple software, and AI running simultaneously all run smoothly. Whether for creation, development, or running models, there’s no pressure.
Final conclusion:
Light office work: M4 can be considered.
If, like me, you want to work on AI, build an Agent, and use OpenClaw, go straight for the Mac mini M4 Pro 48G+512G. You don’t need a large hard drive; external drives are cheap and sufficient.
No hesitation, no compromises, no regrets—
