New RTX tech aims to let 5G grow without blinding vital radars

RTX BBN Technologies has been awarded a contract by the Department of War to develop a “smart spectrum manager” prototype. This technology aims to facilitate the secure coexistence of commercial 5G networks and defense radars in the 3.1–3.45 GHz band, preventing interference that could compromise national security operations or 5G service quality. The project targets significant improvements in 5G capacity, radar interference reduction, and 5G link quality through a multi-phase system leveraging machine learning and dynamic spectrum management.
