IT Home, February 5th — This evening, according to South Korean media outlet “News1,” regarding the large-scale personal information leak incident involving local e-commerce giant Coupang (酷澎) that was exposed in November last year, the investigation results show that the scope of the leak has further expanded, with approximately 165,000 additional accounts confirmed to have had their personal information leaked. Coupang emphasized that the actual number of personal information records held by the involved personnel remains around 3,000 and has not changed.

IT Home learned from the report that Coupang has officially notified affected users via SMS about the additional leak.

Coupang stated that after the personal information leak in November 2025, the company promptly blocked the abnormal access routes and completed the necessary measures. In the subsequent investigation of the incident, it was confirmed that about 165,000 additional accounts’ information had been leaked.

In accordance with the requirements of the country’s Personal Information Protection Committee, Coupang has informed the affected users of this new development.

The leaked information is limited to contact list details voluntarily provided by users, including names, phone numbers, and addresses. Coupang stated that payment information, login credentials, email addresses, order records, and residential access codes were not affected.

A representative from Coupang emphasized that this is not a new leak incident but rather further verified information based on the case disclosed last November.

Coupang announced that the company has strengthened its internal monitoring system to ensure a quick response in similar situations and has apologized to users again. Additionally, Coupang will distribute shopping vouchers worth 50,000 Korean won (Note: approximately 240.6 RMB at current exchange rates) to each affected user as compensation.

However, whether the total number of leaked individuals will be adjusted from the previously announced 33.7 million to 33.865 million remains uncertain.

Industry insiders pointed out that the government and Coupang are currently verifying whether the previously disclosed 33.7 million leaked accounts include invalid accounts. These accounts contain no identifiable personal information. As the government releases the official results later, the confirmed scope of the leak may still change.
