Report from WHO: First group of patients crossing Rafah Border into Egypt
According to a report from the World Health Organization (WHO), humanity has made a significant step forward in efforts to rescue those in need. Recently, the Rafah border crossing was reopened, allowing the first group of patients—comprising five individuals and seven healthcare workers—to be successfully transferred from Gaza to Egypt.
The First Step of the Transfer Campaign
Information from international sources indicates that transporting patients through the Rafah border marks the beginning of a larger humanitarian effort. These five patients, supported by a medical team, safely arrived in Egypt after crossing the border. This is not just a small number but also a sign of hope for tens of thousands of others.
Overwhelming Pressure from Remaining Cases
The reality behind these initial numbers is extremely urgent. WHO reports that more than 18,500 patients are still waiting to be transferred, with each passing day representing a difficult wait. These patients are suffering from severe injuries caused by conflict, as well as chronic conditions such as cancer, diabetes, and other illnesses.
Children—Highest Priority
Even more concerning is that among the patients awaiting transfer, over 3,000 are children requiring urgent medical intervention. The United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) has emphasized the urgency of this issue. Currently, local medical agencies are prioritizing treatment, focusing on critical cases and children to maximize their chances of survival.
