【Blocktempo】Tempo team officially launched the native token standard TIP-20 on January 7th, with a clear objective——providing underlying support for stablecoin and payment token applications.

From a technical perspective, TIP-20 incorporates substantial innovations while maintaining complete ERC-20 compatibility. It adds transfer memo functionality, compliance control mechanisms, and reward distribution capabilities. While these improvements may seem like details, they carry significant implications for real-world payment, settlement, and fund management scenarios.

Interestingly, TIP-20 not only enables issuers to launch customized stablecoins for specific payment scenarios, but can also handle high-throughput transactions while ensuring predictable fees——a critical requirement for payment applications. Moreover, on Tempo’s native decentralized exchange, these stablecoins can trade directly with each other.

What’s particularly noteworthy is the design at the permissions and governance level. The standard has built-in role-based access control and policy registry mechanisms, enabling compliant operations and process control while further lowering barriers to entry for traditional financial institutions.

There has also been significant ecosystem activity. Infrastructure service providers like AllUnity, Bridge, and LayerZero have begun supporting the TIP-20 standard. Tempo officials stated that this standard is not only applicable to stablecoin issuance, but can also be extended to other fungible asset scenarios, thereby reducing redundant development costs and expanding the standard’s applicability.
