Maduro to Appear in Court in Manhattan at Dawn, Trump Says Full Control of Venezuela's Resources Needed
Breaking news, Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro is expected to make his first court appearance at 12:00 noon EST on January 5 (1:00 AM Beijing time on January 6) at the Federal District Court in Lower Manhattan, New York.
This court hearing stems from a large-scale military operation launched by the U.S. military in Venezuela on January 3. Maduro and his wife were forcibly detained by U.S. forces during the operation and transferred to the United States. They are currently held at the Brooklyn Detention Center in New York.
It is reported that the hearing will be presided over by Judge Alvin Hellerstein of the Federal District Court in the Southern District of New York. The appearance is based on a declassified alternative indictment, in which Maduro is accused of multiple charges, including "drug trafficking."
Following Maduro's arrest, Trump stated at a press conference that the United States aims to fully control Venezuela's oil and various resources, while also gaining access rights to local roads and bridges. His economic ambitions are clearly evident.
Dramatically, on the same day and in the same city where Maduro appears in court, the United Nations Security Council is scheduled to hold an emergency meeting at 10:00 AM EST on Monday to discuss the U.S. military action against Venezuela.
This arrangement also means that a diplomatic game over national sovereignty and international law, along with a highly controversial domestic judicial process, are unfolding simultaneously in New York.
In summary, Maduro's forced deportation and court appearance in the U.S. are not merely a legal case but the final move in the U.S. strategy of exerting maximum pressure on Venezuela through the combined use of military, judicial, economic, and public opinion means to serve its geopolitical and economic interests.
This event also marks a strong return of the U.S. Monroe Doctrine hegemonic thinking in its Latin America policy. Its subsequent developments will not only influence the situation in Latin America but will also have profound and significant impacts on the global landscape.
