Following the deal closure, Tokyo-listed SoftBank shares climbed approximately 5 percent, reaching 16,160.00 yen, reflecting investor optimism around the strategic move.
The Japanese conglomerate initiated its agreement to acquire the U.S.-based semiconductor design firm on March 19, 2025, for a total consideration of $6.5 billion, equivalent to roughly 973.0 billion yen. The transaction was executed through SoftBank’s subsidiary Silver Bands 6 (US) Corp., streamlining the acquisition structure.
Strategic Positioning in AI Compute
Ampere Computing specializes in developing high-performance, energy-efficient, and sustainable AI compute solutions leveraging the ARM compute platform. This acquisition positions SoftBank to capitalize on the rapidly growing demand for specialized AI processors as enterprises scale their artificial intelligence infrastructure worldwide.
With the acquisition now complete, Ampere Computing operates as a wholly-owned subsidiary of SoftBank Group. The company’s financial performance and operational results will be consolidated into SoftBank’s financial statements commencing from the acquisition date. The bank’s management team is currently evaluating the full financial implications of the transaction on the group’s consolidated earnings.
This move underscores SoftBank’s commitment to establishing a stronger foothold in semiconductor design and advanced computing technologies, sectors critical to powering the next generation of AI applications.
