John Diez To Lead Ryder System As Robert Sanchez Steps Down Next Spring
Ryder System, Inc. ®, a major player in logistics and transportation, is preparing for a leadership transition. The company announced that CEO Robert Sanchez will step down on March 31, 2026, with President and Chief Operating Officer John Diez taking over the helm.
The Succession Plan Takes Shape
The board of directors has formally approved this transition strategy. Diez will officially become CEO on the same date Sanchez exits, marking a carefully orchestrated leadership change. Sanchez, who took the helm in January 2013 and became chairman in May 2013, won’t disappear entirely—he’ll transition to executive chair to guide the company through this shift.
Who Is John Diez?
Diez brings solid operational credibility to the role. He assumed the president and COO position on January 1, 2025, stepping into day-to-day oversight of all three business divisions: Fleet Management Solutions (FMS), Supply Chain Solutions (SCS), and Dedicated Transportation Solutions (DTS). The board also elected him to the company’s board of directors, effective March 31, 2026.
His track record spans over two decades at Ryder. Before his current operational role, Diez served as executive vice president and chief financial officer, where he managed the company’s entire financial apparatus. He also previously led Ryder’s fleet management division, overseeing fleet operations and maintenance, as well as its dedicated transportation unit—where he delivered notable revenue growth and improved operational returns.
Building on a Strong Foundation
Diez started his career in audit at KPMG LLP before joining Ryder in 2002. This combination of external audit experience and 20+ years of internal company knowledge positions him as an insider who understands both how to optimize operations and scrutinize financial performance.
The transition ensures continuity while bringing fresh energy to the transportation and logistics sector during an evolving market landscape.
