Odaily Planet Daily News - Due to escalating protests within Iran and the rial exchange rate falling to historic lows, the Iranian government implemented a nationwide internet shutdown today, affecting approximately 7 million cryptocurrency users’ trading activities.
According to TRM Labs data, the total cryptocurrency flow within Iran from January to July 2025 was approximately $3.7 billion. Under the current internet outage conditions, Bitwise CEO Hunter Horsley recommends bitcoin as a wealth storage mechanism. Currently viable offline trading solutions include: Starlink satellite internet has been activated within the country and can provide high-speed connectivity; Blockstream Satellite Network supports broadcasting bitcoin data globally.
Additionally, the decentralized communication service Bitchat based on Bluetooth mesh networks has exceeded 1.4 million downloads since its launch, supporting transaction data transmission between mobile devices. The Darkwire project developed by Cyb3r17 utilizes long-range radio technology to create mesh networks, enabling bitcoin transaction transmission in offline environments. Machankura, developed by South African developer Kgothatso Ngako, allows users to send and receive bitcoin through telecom networks rather than the internet. All aforementioned offline solutions ultimately require internet-connected devices to upload transactions to the blockchain for confirmation.
