On January 2, according to The Block, data shows that the 7-day moving average of transaction count on the Ethereum network reached 1.87 million transactions on December 31, setting a new all-time high. This surpasses the 1.61 million record set during the peak of the NFT and DeFi boom on May 10, 2021, and also exceeds the recent high of 1.73 million recorded on August 9, 2025. The number of active addresses on the Ethereum network also hit a phased high at the end of the year, reaching 728,904, the highest level since May 12, 2021. Additionally, the number of new addresses on December 31 reached 270,160, marking the largest single-day increase since early 2018. Nick Ruck, Research Director at LVRG Research, stated that the recent surge in on-chain activity is mainly driven by network upgrades, which significantly reduce transaction fees, improve scalability, and attract more institutional participation through ETFs and the tokenization of real-world assets (RWA).
