5 Reasons Why the Ethereum Fusaka Upgrade is Great for the ETH Ecosystem.
The Fusaka upgrade, activated on December 3, 2025, introduces key enhancements like PeerDAS (Peer Data Availability Sampling), increased blob capacity, and a higher gas limit, paving the way for massive scalability and efficiency gains. Here are five compelling reasons it strengthens the ETH ecosystem:
1. Drastically Lower Transaction Fees on Layer 2 Networks: Fusaka expands data availability space for rollups (like Arbitrum and Optimism), reducing L2 fees by an estimated 40-60%. This makes DeFi, NFT trading, and everyday transactions more affordable, drawing in more users and boosting overall network activity.
2. Massive Scalability Boost for High-Throughput Applications: By enabling up to 8x more blob throughput and raising the gas limit to 60 million per block, Fusaka allows the ecosystem to handle over 100,000 transactions per second across L2s surpassing Visa's average. This supports seamless growth for dApps without congesting the mainnet.
3. Enhanced Node and Validator Efficiency: PeerDAS lets nodes sample tiny data fragments instead of downloading full blobs, cutting hardware and bandwidth costs by 80-85%. This keeps Ethereum decentralized and accessible, encouraging more validators to participate and fortifying network security.
4. Reinvigorated ETH Deflationary Mechanics: Features like EIP-7918 set a minimum reserve price for blob fees, ensuring consistent ETH burns even during low activity periods. This could reduce net issuance by 2,000–3,000 ETH daily with rising L2 usage, amplifying scarcity and long-term value for holders.
5. Accelerated Ecosystem Growth and Developer Innovation: With smoother performance, lower latency (approaching "instant-feel" transactions via preconfirmations), and reliable infrastructure, developers can build more sophisticated apps. This expands Ethereum's dominance in DeFi (over 50% TVL) and onchain finance, attracting institutional adoption and liquidity.
