In the early morning of yesterday ( 4:42 AM KST ) the Korean exchange Upbit confirmed an “anomalous” withdrawal of funds amounting to $36.8 million in assets from the Solana ecosystem. The affected tokens include SOL, JUP, PYTH, RENDER, BONK, USDC, and JTO, all drained to an unknown wallet.
What happened next:
Upbit paused all deposits/withdrawals instantly
Moved 100% of the remaining funds to cold storage
Managed to freeze $8.18M in LAYER tokens
Coordinates with projects and authorities to block the rest
The important thing: The platform has already guaranteed to compensate all losses with its own reserves, so users do not lose money.
The mystery: They still haven't revealed how the attackers got in or the technical details of the exploit.
Solana has dropped 2.28% since the incident, JUP falls 1.69%. The market is awaiting more details on the point of vulnerability.
