Government eliminates import tax on Bitcoin mining equipment
Source: PortaldoBitcoin Original Title: Government eliminates import tax on Bitcoin mining equipment Original Link: The federal government has eliminated the Import Tax for equipment used in Bitcoin mining operations, expanding the list of products eligible for the benefit through two Resolutions (823 and 824) GECEX published in the Official Gazette of the Union.
The measure adjusts and complements previous rules by including new items related to the infrastructure necessary to maintain mining farms in the country under the ex-tariff regime. The exemptions are valid until November 30, 2027.
The resolutions update annexes of previous regulations, removing some older exempt items and including new goods that now have a zero import rate. Among the covered items are complete storage and cooling structures for servers dedicated to cryptocurrency mining, as well as functional units such as “modular data centers.”
This measure aligns with previous government decisions in the same direction. In May of this year, the country had already granted exemptions for some Bitcoin mining equipment by including mobile data center infrastructures and cooling systems for rigs using the SHA-256 algorithm. This new decision focuses on almost the same types of items, covering servers dedicated to cryptocurrency mining that use the SHA256 algorithm.
Now, with the new resolutions, the government expands and reorganizes this set of benefited products, reinforcing the trend of treating mining equipment as capital goods subject to industrial and commercial policies, rather than as general-use consumer items.
